Marport is a leading provider of high-performance underwater acoustic technology. For the past several years we have been designing and developing Software Defined Sonar (SDS) – a disruptive hardware and software platform that enables multi-function sonar products for underwater sensing, positioning and communications.
SDS is a system where components that have typically been implemented in hardware are instead implemented using software on embedded computing devices. Unlike fixed function hardware designs, our software-centric FPGAs can be dynamically reprogrammed to configure sonar functions “on the fly”. The technology platform provides an efficient and comparatively inexpensive solution for building multi-function, future-proofed sonar products that can be updated and enhanced by using software upgrades.
Software Defined Sonar technology has the potential to become the next-generation “sonar engine” for applications within commercial fisheries, underwater defence, offshore energy and ocean science. With Marport’s broad range of SDS solutions, customers have the ability to deploy a wide variety of innovative products for underwater applications.
